10 days of digging into the beatitudes
day 7
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
This is something we need to ask for. It’s not automatic. The psalmist David, who God called a man after his own heart, even had to pray for this.
“Create in me a clean heart, oh God, and renew within me a steadfast spirit.” Psalm 51:12
We’re all susceptible to having impure motives. We’re all at risk of slowly corrupting. The enemy is subtle and just tries to knock us off target a little bit at a time. But over the course of a long journey, being a small fraction off from our goal will mean we miss it by a mile.
Holiness is often about constantly recalibrating. Let the desire to see God more clearly drive you.
Take some time today to get back on track. Identify an area you’ve been struggling with and take a step to right the ship. Maybe it’s dropping a habit, maybe it’s picking up a new one.
Maybe it’s adding this plea to your daily prayers: “Create in me a clean heart, oh God.”
